Ibadan Airport is a single runway airport which serves Ibadan and the rest of Oyo state. The airport is owned and operated by Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). The airport is 30 minutes from Iwo Road which a major connecting road in the city centre of Ibadan.


Ibadan Airport is roughly 19 km from the city centre thus making it easily accessible to the hub of Ibadan’s activities. There two major options for transportation out of Ibadan airport towards the city centre. You can either take a shared cab or hire a private car.

Shared cab rides from the airport to Ibadan city centre cost about N80. A private car may not be readily available and should cost at least double the shared cab fare. Pre-booking services for cabs are yet to be available at Ibadan airport.


Upon arrival in the city of Ibadan, you will find that it is one of those cities where transportation is easily accessible once you know your way around. There are four major options;

The public bus system that comprises of white and blue-striped buses. The state official buses are called Ajumose buses. The Ajumose buses are an extensive network of minibuses.

You may also choose to move around via a quick motorcycle ride (popularly called Okada). Okadas are cheap and available everywhere, though some drivers are erratic.

There are commercial tricycles which ply designated routes only.

Taxis are the most convenient mode of transport in the city. Taxis in good condition are however not easy to come by.  It is therefore advisable to secure your transportation in advance before travelling. Let the driver be aware that you would like to use his services for the period of the visit. Most taxi drivers would be happy with this arrangement.

Tip: If you choose to move about the city with public transportation, make sure you keep a good eye on your belongings as Ibadan has the tendency to be rowdy and unsafe.
